Our programme structure: We think that the way we teach English is very good, and we are getting better all the time. In fact, we are on the leading edge of the transformation in bilingual education in Thailand. Your child will be taught with native speaking teachers using Cambridge coursebooks. This structure prepares your child to be able to speak and use English at an international standard, i.e. the standard used by the Common European Framework. We evaluate this progress using the Cambridge YLE (Young Learner Exams for Primary 2, 3 and 4. In Primary 5 through Secondary 2, students take the KET (Key English Test), and after that the PET test (Preliminary English Test). Further, we are preparing students through the Cambridge IGCSE exam system (International General Certificate Examination) including English as a Second Language. By passing the IGCSE, students fulfill graduation requirements to study internationally. What makes our program different is that we are able to both challenge those students whose English is strong, and to support students who do not use English regularly outside the classroom. How do we do this? 1) EAL – English additional learning assists those students who are struggling to keep up with classes taught by native speakers to improve. In 2010, we graduated about 30% of our EAL students back into the class without this extra assistance. 2) In Primary, we have an assisted reader program run by certified teachers. These teachers monitor the reading of students on a weekly basis. They move step-by-step through 10 levels of phonics, and into independent reading. Further, we have a library policy of book borrowing, which requires the student to borrow an English book and read it at home on a weekly basis. At REPS, we learn to read so we can read to learn. 3) In Secondary, we have a supplementary English class differentiated according to students needs. Those students who need to be supported through lessons on grammar and reading comprehension receive help from our English specialist who provides individualized assistance. Those students who need more challenge are put through a supplemental course which analyzes context and meaning, and develops higher critical thinking capacities. If you have chosen Rayong English Programme School, you can be sure that you will receive rewards that extend far beyond the gaining of a graduation certificate. |
