Why is a bilingual school better than normal Thai curriculum school?

โพสต์20 ต.ค. 2551, 21:56โดยDavid Goldsack   [ อัปเดต 20 ต.ค. 2551, 21:56 ]

At a bilingual (English Programme) school like REPS your child is taught the full Thai curriculum as well as gaining a high level of fluency in English and Thai.  The curriculum is still controlled by the Thai Ministry of Education (MOE) but the inclusion of overseas teachers gives your child access to more student centred teaching methods and contact with fluent English speakers every day of the week.  See our staffing policy for more detail.

After graduating from REPS, where can our children continue their studies?

We aim to give students a wide range of further educational options when they leave REPS.  This includes entry to both Thai universities and English language universities in Thailand and overseas.   At 16 years old students will be able to sit the widely recognized International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) exams in a range of exams, depending on their English ability.  They will also sit the Thai Ministry of Education exams at Mathyom 6 level giving them access to the best Thai universities.

What nationalities of teachers are permitted to teach at EP schools according to MOE law?

โพสต์20 ต.ค. 2551, 21:54โดยDavid Goldsack   [ อัปเดต 20 ต.ค. 2551, 21:55 ]

MOE law does not in fact dictate which nationalities can be employed to teach English.  Our policy is always to find the best possible teachers with native level fluency and clear accents to teach your children.  See our staffing policy for more detail.

Where are the REPS foreign teachers from?

โพสต์20 ต.ค. 2551, 21:53โดยDavid Goldsack   [ อัปเดต 12 ส.ค. 2552, 20:10 โดย pom REPS ]

Our current group of English speaking teachers comes from the USA, Canada, Britain, Australia, India and South Africa. English language lessons are all taught by native English speaking teachers.

Are your foreign teachers qualified?

โพสต์20 ต.ค. 2551, 21:51โดยDavid Goldsack   [ อัปเดต 20 ต.ค. 2551, 21:52 ]

At REPS our teachers all meet the MOE requirements and in many cases are much better qualified.  Of twelve current staff, five have specific Bachelor in Education degrees, one of whom is qualified with a Masters in Education.  A further two staff are currently studying for a Masters in TESOL at the Asian University.

REPS is able to attract very good staff because we pay up to 50% higher salaries than other EP schools, we offer other incentives like health insurance, subsidized education for teachers’ children and assistance with further educational course fees.  Finally, we offer a great working environment – the facilities and teaching resources are good and the school is growing fast.

Do you employ Philipino teachers?

โพสต์20 ต.ค. 2551, 21:48โดยDavid Goldsack   [ อัปเดต 6 ส.ค. 2552, 19:02 ]

We currently employ a small team of well quailified Philipino teachers to work on our reading development programme.  This programme was highly commended by the Ministry of Education during a recent inspection as it is something that very few other schools offer.  The programme is well structured and allows us to help students at their particular reading level.  This one to one teaching is labour intensive and we would not be able to offer it at the current levels of course fees if we did not employ Philipino teachers.  As it is their primary role in the school, these teachers are dedicated to teaching reading skills and therefore make an excellent job of it.

If my children are not good at English, but want to study EP, how can they do this?

โพสต์20 ต.ค. 2551, 21:46โดยDavid Goldsack   [ อัปเดต 20 ต.ค. 2551, 21:48 ]

At REPS we have students from a wide range of backgrounds and with varying degrees of ability in English.  One of the hardest tasks for teachers is to manage classes of multiple abilities and, for those students who are behind with their English, it causes a feeling of helplessness which can affect the rest of their studies.

We are working hard to help these students by giving them extra English classes which take them out of the larger class environment.  In small groups of about five, the students’ individual problems can be identified and worked on.  The atmosphere of these classes is informal and a lot of encouragement is given to boost confidence.  These classes take place at 3.30 pm after school twice a week.

How do you develop reading skills?

โพสต์20 ต.ค. 2551, 21:45โดยDavid Goldsack   [ อัปเดต 20 ต.ค. 2551, 21:46 ]

We place a lot of importance in the ability to read at REPS. We believe this is one of your child’s main pathways to independent learning.  As such, we try to read with your children at least once a week, giving them reading books which are suitable for their reading ability.  The child is allowed to bring their book home and so reading is a part of their homework.

As with anything, those who practice more develop more quickly.  It is noticeable to teachers which children are getting help at home with their reading.  Please read with your child at home at least twice a week.

What facilities will you have to serve the expansion of the school to Mattayom 6?

REPS has final approval for its Phase 2 building which will accommodate the Mathyom school in the coming years.  Building work on the second school house, a covered multi-purpose sports area and new changing rooms will begin in November 2008 for completion in April 2009.  Phase 3 comprises a third school house and further sports facilities and is envisaged to start in 2010.
